As a young teen in
East Aurora, NY. He would visit a local
gift shop that sold the work of Walter U. Jennings,
the former
Superintendent of the Roycroft Copper Shop.
His interest
grew thru his late teens when he visited
Mr
Jennings in his home studio. After a thorough
demonstration
of the tools and techniques used in
chasing the square
Roycroft rose (referred to as
the Tudor Rose by Mr. Jennings)
he presented
Alburn with a chasing hammer and admonished
him to go home, make his own tools, and practice.
Which he did. Mr. Jennings passed away in 1964.
In 1965 Alburn
approached Eve Strong, owner of the
Roycroft Gift Shop, with
some of his work that had
developed from his visits to Mr. Jennings
Studio. She
immediately took the work and placed it for sale in the shop.
He continued with the Roycroft Gift Shop through three owners.
Presently he is represented by The West End Gallery in East Aurora, NY
